I'm not going to lie, as a soon-to-be-graduate, I'm pretty scared about life in general.
I graduate in a month almost to the day, then I move up to Maryland/Washington DC area, then I start paying bills, I'll have to sit down and read through the tax books by myself. I have to figure out what the heck good job benefits actually look like. What do I do for insurances? When/How much do I save up to pursue a Masters degree?
So, yeah...
I refuse to give up though. I don't care how many more places I have to apply to for jobs, I'll get one. I will dutifully work my way to a position that I'm passionate about. Even with the super basic, entry-level, I'll scrape the rat poop out of the bin jobs... you have to work your way to it and through it.
A few months ago everyone was asking me what I'm going to pursue when I graduate, and I'd joke existentially, "I used to have dreams" and then follow it up with "I'll take anything even remotely related to animals at this point"... but that's not really true.
I don't expect to get a dream job right out of college, but I do expect myself to maintain inspiration and passion long enough to earn it.
I've genuinely had my hopes swept aside so many times, at this point, I think I might be an expert on how to shrewdly work through disappointment... but I've also been in so many situations I never saw coming, that I never even thought to plan for... and usually it was because I just leapt toward something with a "why not give it a shot?" mentality.
My resume and CV have been checked over by regents professors, department heads, other university faculty, professional career services people at my university, and all of them keep telling me they're genuinely great. I apparently just need to wait a bit longer and hopefully I'll email or call the right person, network just right, work as dutifully as always, and someone will be willing to give me a shot just like the others did at one point or another.
Future manager, I look forward to working with you soon, even if I have to jump in the deep end or claw my way there. I'm genuinely looking forward to working with you.
Fighting for rejuvenation and passion... like this little guy (below).
Rehabilitated and freed for migration! (these pictures were from a few months ago)
